How To Grow Your Own Avocado Tree In Small Garden Pot

Avocado – it’s probably one of the healthiest fruits on the planet. It contains high amounts of healthy nutrients, especially healthy fats, which can provide many health benefits for you and your health in general. So, the next time you make guacamole, or you make an avocado salad, or you make your favorite avocado smoothie – then you should save the avocado seeds, so you can use it to grow your own avocado tree.

As we said, these fruits are delicious and you should consume them every day. But, you should be careful – because they contain high amounts of calories. The avocado trees are warm season plants, and they can be easily damaged by the cold weather and frost. So, people who live in harsh and cold environment must know that they should grow their avocado tree inside their homes.

Just follow the simple instructions:

  1. Extract the seed

First, you need to remove the avocado seed from the fruit, but you should be extra careful and try not to damage it. Then, you need to wash it off very good, or you can simply put it in a cup of water for 5 minutes and then scrub the remaining’s with a clean paper towel. Note: but, you should be careful not to remove the brown skin from the seed (that’s it’s cover).

  1. Pierce the seed

First, you should know that some avocado seeds are slightly oblong, which means that some areas are shaped just like a perfect sphere. But, you should also know that all avocado seeds have a bottom side – from where the roots will grow. And they also have a top side – from where the sprout will grow. So, now when you know all that, you should realize that the slightly pointier end is the top and the flat end is the bottom side. So, in order to get your seed sprout, you need to place the bottom side in water. And it’s extremely important to know which side is top and bottom, before you pierce with toothpicks.

  1. Soak the seed in water

When you are done with the piercing method, you need to put the bottom side of the avocado seed in water, so the toothpick should be wedged in the seed firmly. We highly recommend that you should stick them in at a slight angle – pointing down. In this way, more of your avocado base rests in the water when you set this over a glass.

  1. Let the seed sprout

Well, you need to know that it will take about 3 to 6 weeks for the top of the avocado to split. When this happens, the stem sprout will emerge from the top and roots will begin to grow at the base. And now, when the stem grows to about 5 or 6 inches, you need to pinch out the top set of leaves. And in the next few weeks, new leaves will sprout and there will be more roots.

  1. Trim the sprout

Now, once the sprout tail reaches 6 to 7 inches, you need to trim it in half to promote a new growth.

  1. Prepare to plant

You need to put some enriched potting soil in a large flower pot – 8 to 10 inches (across). You should feel the soil to about 1 inch from the top of the flower pot. Now, you need to make a small depression in the center of the soil and plate the avocado seed, root-side down into the soil. Make sure you give the soil some watering. You need to water it often, so the soil is moist all the time. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to share with your friends and family.
